Real estate shopping is changing and it’s thanks to a new generation of savvy buyers seeking homes that are equipped to meet technological capabilities. According to Forbes.com the Gen X and Gen Y generations are those who grew up with smartphones, apps and Google searches.

About 30 years ago, the standard home buyers were married couples looking for a home. Today, we are seeing an increased amount of single people and also well-connected mobile professionals purchasing homes.

Here are the top 3 shifts in home buying according Forbes.com:

“The man cave” referenced many times in blockbuster movies, is now what technologically savvy buyers have their eye on. These media rooms are high-tech offering surround sound, large screen TV’s and A/V equipment.

The home office is increasingly being sought-after in our on-the-go culture. A customized home office with a separate entrance offers busy professionals an opportunity to keep meetings with clients separate from the rest of the family.

Homes with amenities. Today’s buyers have active lifestyles and are seeking buildings with more amenities. These can include 24 hour concierge, gym, spa and more.

As our culture changes, our home design and features begin to change gradually. As a result, it’s best to invest in long-term home style shifts as opposed to the latest trend.
