The holidays are over and winter has finally kicked in. For some, spending the days and nights indoors sounds so much more appealing than venturing out into the cold. However, for two weeks starting January 26th, why not try something new – go out on the town and experience the incredible restaurants in Oakville! Enjoy an evening with friends or loved ones in the warmth while appreciating some great cuisine.
The Rocca Sisters & Associates are proud to be the presenting sponsor for the 2016 A Taste of Oakville Event, which will run from Jan 26th – Feb 11th. Come and celebrate the culinary scene in Oakville!
Tickle your taste buds and discover the many great restaurants that Downtown Oakville and Bronte Village have to offer. This delicious culinary event will feature 26 sensational restaurants offering signature prix-fixe lunch and dinner menus. Meals will usually include an appetizer, main course and dessert.
We know funds can be a little tight following the holidays, so with substantially lowered prices, these prix-fixed menus are the perfect opportunity to enjoy a night out and try a restaurant you’ve never been to before. Let your taste buds travel the world without leaving Oakville!

Winter is finally upon us! Although early winter has been much milder than previous years thanks to El Niño, it has been predicted that the second half of winter will be more of what we are used to – snow, freezing rain, and below zero temperatures. Therefore, before we get hit with our first major winter storm of 2016, it would be a good idea to get familiarized with your town’s snow removal service. Snow and freezing rain can make commuting and getting around town a nightmare! Know when to expect your roads and sidewalks to be cleared – and be prepared for long commutes and dangerous winter road conditions.
There are also a few things that residents can do to assist the city with efficient snow clearing.
- Remove snow from fire hydrants and drainage catch basins near your property.
- Clear snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to your property and from roofs that overhang onto the sidewalk.
- Pile snow on the right side of your driveway (when facing the road) when shoveling. This helps minimize the ridge of snow created by the snowplow at the end of your driveway.
- Remove plowed snow at the end of your driveway.
- Park vehicles on your driveway and off the street when possible. This will allow plows to completely clear the roads.
- Keep a safe distance from plows on the roads and do not attempt to pass.
- Do not pile snow on roads or sidewalks. This is a violation of the Highway Traffic Act and city bylaws.
- Keep decorative items near sidewalks and curbs flat on the ground and at least 30 cm away from the edge in order to reduce the chance of damage to property or snow removal equipment and injury to operators.

The REALTORS® Association of Hamilton-Burlington (RAHB) has just reported that 796 property sales were processed through the RAHB Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) system in December for the Hamilton/Burlington and surrounding area. This represents a 7.6 per cent increase in sales compared to December of the previous year.
RAHB President Donna Bacher remarked that this is the strongest December we’ve seen in five years. “We saw a very strong real estate market in December. Listings and sales were both above average for the month; we haven’t seen a December market like this since 2009.”
Sales of residential properties were 4.4 per cent higher than the same month of the previous year, with the average sale price up 4.5 per cent for the month. Seasonally adjusted numbers of new listings were 11.3 per cent higher than the same month the year prior.
Actual overall residential sales were 8.2 per cent higher than the previous year at the same time. Residential freehold sales were 9.8 per cent higher while sales in the condominium market saw an increase of 2.1 per cent.
The average price of freehold properties showed an increase of 5.4 per cent compared to the same month the previous year; the average sale price in the condominium market decreased by 2.2 per cent when compared to the same period.
“With more properties selling than were listed in December, we may be in for an interesting January,” added Bacher. “Statistically speaking, we’ve now sold some of the listing inventory, leaving us with considerably fewer listings going into the new year. The low inventory and December’s strong sales mean we remain in a seller’s market.”
Analyzing average sale price information can be useful in establishing long term trends, but should not be used as an indicator that specific properties have increased or decreased in value.
