The Importance of a Smoke-Free Home

Next week is National Non-Smoking Week and in honour of this campaign we thought it would be a good idea to discuss the importance of a smoke-free home and the impact smoking can have on a home’s resale value.

A 2013 survey of Ontario real estate agents and brokers, sponsored by Pfizer Canada, found that smoking in the home could lower the value of your property by up to 29 per cent.

When it comes to selling your home, buyers first impressions are critical for a quick sale. Many potential buyers are put off by a home that has been smoked in – the smell is difficult to get out and the discoloration on the walls & ceiling can be difficult to remove.

An overwhelming majority of Ontario real estate agents and brokers agreed that it is more challenging to sell a home where owners have smoked.

Were you aware that smoking can cause substantial, irreparable damage to the inside of your home? How, exactly, does cigarette smoke effect the home? First, smoke can stay in a room long after someone smokes there.  It settles on surfaces and builds up over time on electrical outlets, walls, ceilings, floors and furniture.  It can get into every nook and cranny of a home and can be quite costly to repair. The effect it has on your air conditioning system and furnaces could be severe if you don’t change your air filters regularly. The buildup of dust caused by smoke will be circulating the air, clogging up the air filters.  This will cause the unit to overwork and eventually breakdown.

So how do you maintain a smoke-free home? Never smoke inside your home. Create a comfortable place to smoke outdoors, and let guests know that your home is a smoke-free environment and show them an area that is suitable to smoke outside. In the event that you have smoked in your home, or are interested in a property that smokers occupy, with our extensive experience we have proven solutions to help bring a home that has been smoked in back to a better environment.

Thank you for an incredible 2015

We would like to send a very big thank you to the community for once again making The Rocca Sisters & Associates the #1 Team in Burlington & area for a sixth consecutive year (2010-2015) and the #3 Team in all of Canada for Royal LePage based on sales production and volume (2015)!

We are excited to welcome 2016 with another year of accomplishments to reflect on and an eventful year ahead. Our Royal LePage National Sales Rankings have been released for 2015 and Rocca Sisters & Associates ranked #3 nationally for Royal LePage Canada, out of the approximately 16,500 sales representatives across the country. We also surpassed the prestigious threshold of over $1 Billion in Sales Volume (for 2005-2015 pending & closed properties) and had some record-setting sales achieving the highest residential sale prices ever recorded for the districts of Tyandaga & Dynes. This is a true honour, and all of us here at Rocca Sisters & Associates are both excited and appreciative to have concluded another successful year.

The year ahead will bring us many more opportunities to do what we love, and that is helping people in our community. In our recent Rocca Sisters & Associates 2016 planning meeting, we discussed what our visions are as a team for our community and our clients. How many families are we going to help this year? What community events will we proudly put our name to? These are all things that will make the difference in 2016, and this is what we look forward to.

What sets us apart from many other professionals is our ability to embrace change at many different levels.  Change is the one constant; therefore, it is essential that we continually refine our client systems in order to meet the ever changing client expectations. In the year ahead, we will continue to be innovators in the industry and provide all of our clients with an experience that is not just the best, but remarkable!

We personally oversee every listing and keep our clients well informed throughout the whole process which leads to many long lasting relationships with our valued clients.

We would like to thank all of our incredible clients for your support and referrals throughout 2015, as it is your support that continues to drive our success allowing others to experience firsthand our unique and genuine approach to buying and selling.  Our relationships truly recommend us as the majority of our business is done with repeat clients and referrals to their family & friends. We look forward to serving you, your family & your friends in 2016!

Join us as we support the Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children as an official Primary Sponsor of the Mercedes-Benz Oakville 10k presented by New Balance on April 26, 2015. We can’t wait to be a part of this amazing event for the second consecutive year. The Rocca Sisters & Associates are always searching for new and exciting ways to give back to the community and what can be more perfect than the only 10K race in Canada where someone wins a Mercedes-Benz! On April 26th, Mercedes-Benz Oakville will provide the keys to a 2015 GLA 4matic, by way of a random bib draw, to one lucky 10K or 5K finisher.

Starting and finishing on the sprawling park-like campus of 104-year old Appleby College, runners will experience a beautiful route winding its way through picturesque downtown Oakville and includes stunning views of the lakeshore.

In addition to the 10K and 5K run/walk this event also features a Junior Jog and Toddler Trot. What a perfect way to get the whole family involved! A Family Fun Zone will include parachute games, bingo, bubble mania, mini basketball, freeze dancing and more, sponsored by Appleby Camps. Be sure to stop by the Rocca Sisters & Associates tent on event day to warm up with a cup of free hot apple cider & more!

The Lighthouse Program has supported more than 200 grieving children, teens and their families. It’s a wonderful service offered to Halton and Peel region residents. “Often a death of a parent has financial repercussions; this is why we offer our programs free of charge for as long as it is needed.” Currently running at full capacity, Lighthouse hopes donations will help to facilitate a new space. “[They] currently borrow other community spaces to avoid turning children away.” The number of people they serve is expected to double by 2018.

It’s not too late to register! Visit our website,, for more event details or visit to register and use the special promo code ROCCA10 to save ten dollars off your registration. We look forward to seeing you on April 26!
